How can I determine which radiator core support is in my car? The radiator opening has been "massaged" a bit by a prior owner (jagged cut edges), so isn't the stock dimensions I'm sure. The lower radiator mounts (for the two round isolators and radiator pins) look untouched. Can I tell if it is (was) a small block or big block mount by the spacing on the lower mounts, or are they the same.
The current opening measures about 22" wide by 15" tall, and since it's already been "adjusted" can be opened more if needed to get a bigger radiator to fit. I'd like to put in the biggest radiator I can fit that still has the vertical orientation of the lower hose off the side of the pass tank (I've had small limited cooling radiators in the street rods and am tired of inadequate capacity so want to "kill" it this time). I need to work out a final radiator size, as I'm trying to find space to run a new front sway bar (the rack and pinion steering gets in the way of the original location).
The supports with the two studs and cussions at the bottom are all small blocks, that is except 396 and L88. Other BB radiators were brass and had upper and lower saddle mounts like other GM cars.
