Default Going backwards

1966 327 350 hp 4 speed.

For the second time in a few months, the transmission will not come out of reverse. The "T" bar on the shifter does not seem to want to drop down. As a result it can't be shifted into any other gear. It will come out after jockeying it back and for several minutes. The first time we lubed the linkage and that seemed to fix it.

Today the same thing all over again. Lubed it again, but obviously this appears to be only a temporary fix. Any ideas?

Did you unscrew the shift ball and check the bushings and spring in there?
You might need too if the bottom is greased and lubed.

just a thought

Your linkage needs to be adjested. When you get the car in neutral, pull up on the t-handle and move the shifter from the 3-4 gate and pull to the driver seat like you are going to put it in reverse (don't put it in just move the shifter back and forth through all the neutral gates) it should go smooth no hang ups, if it works smooth after a few times you may have a pc of linkage loose, more then likley it is out of adjustment.
