I have my eye on a 1969 L72, 425HP, 427 engine. That i think would look great in my 66 Vette. But i have no idea what ones worth. It's rebuilt and ready to run with original block #3963512, rec port heads #3919840, original intake etc. Any idea on what one is worth? Tried e bay motors & Craigs list but couldn't find anything even close to a vintage big block. I know it's a Camaro COPO engine but i don't know any Camaro guys to ask. thanks.

There was no L72 427/425 in 69. It was a 66 only motor. The 3963512 is a 70-71 454 LS5 motor and would be worth substantially less than a 66 425 horse.
in 1969 around 99 Chevelles and a few hundred Camaros were built with this engine. If you're saying no Corvettes had it that's correct.

I was talking Corvette assuming he wanted something Corvette for his 66. I am aware of the 427 equipped COPO Chevelles and Camaros in 69. I am an old Chevelle guy They are great motors and would be nice in his 66 unless he wants the numbers to work.
Well i just got back in town and will try to add some info. How did i determine it's a COPO engine? Well it has the "MN" suffix on the engine #pad and block, heads, intake etc numbers all match a L72. It's got a solid lifter cam, etc. As for wanting a 427, any 427 (Camaro. Chevelle or Vette) vs say a 502 or 540. Well It's going to be a street cruiser and just knowing that i have a real vintage 427 in my Vette is just way cool. But as of yet i don't know what i'm willing to pay for it.
They did make 425hp Impalas, and Belairs, and Biscaynes, in 69. Norm Fryer used to campaign one in B/S, IIRC, After his 66 425hp Biscayne days. I used to see him at Atco Dragway In N.J..
That engine is worth a fortune to a COPO car owner, especially if the original car is still around. If there is no vin on it, It is worth even more, depending on the casting dates. I bet you could easily trade that engine for the big block of your choice.
The 512 block was also used in 69, as a 427, besides being a 454 casting.

There were a few 512 block 427's produced in 1970 - I have one in my 69 F-body. The engine was a short block factory replacement (CE) with the original August 67 heads & tri-power put back on. Factory 435 hp from 68 Vette. Paid $300 for it complete in 1980. Bet I can get more for it now.
As the title says, numbers matching survivor barn find. Unrestored, running, driving with numbers matching M22, yes, M22 rockcrusher connected to 308 rear. Found it a month ago. Trailered it home. Hood is in my bedroom for now, since it took some work to get her running, but she was entombed in a garage 2 feet off the ground on blocks, suspension half lifted and supported on blocks, tires deflated to 20 psi. 50,123 miles. Tank sticker very legible. It is a 427 RAT. Havent made it through all the documents yet, but even have the crate the car shipped to the dealer in in 68. I believe this car was custom ordered this way 100%. Got it from 2nd owner, who bought it in 72 from original owner.
