Default Info needed - compressor date code

I'm working on getting my AC running in my '66 (I know, just in time for winter) The AC shop says the compressor is leaking so I pulled it last night and I'm trying to figure out if it's the orginial. It has the right part number on it but I can't figure out the date code. The judging manual says there's a date code but doesn't explain it. The code on mine is H226, anyone got an idea?

John:

Where is this date code from. The compressor label or from the compressor casting/housing ??

The rear cover plate has a part number and a date code. The main case may have a date code also. Is this where you got the H226??

Does the compressor have a decal, and does it appear to be of the original type?? Examples of different years decals are on the various Corvette Supplier websites (check Paragon, DR REBUILD, LICS, etc).

H226 could mean August 22, 1966....or 1976....or??

Other info is needed to confirm if original, but I don't think it is from what you have stated so far (assuming you have a 1966 car).

The original factory date code format on the compressor decal during this time period is MMDDYShift (my compressor code is 012672 which is January 26, 1967, second shift. Car was built in late March 1967).

Provide more info for additional help.

Larry

Larry,

The H266 is off the back plate of the compressor. The label d/c is 091962 which indicates Sept. 19th, 1966 on 2nd shift. That being the case the H is probably August 22, 1966. That being the case this is not the compressor that came on my car that was built on January 4th, 1966. I guess the hunt for the right date code begins.

John:

Or just rebuild it and use it, and replace the decal. An old typewriter can be used for the decal date code. (I can give you info on the correct font if you wish). Not sure who will check the back plate for a date, and if they do, this one is pretty close (but still a bit too late for your car).

Trying to get a correctly dated compressor casting(s) will not be easy......but if you do try, call Classic Auto Air in Florida or Old Air Products in Texas. They are your best shot at this point. Google the names for contact info.

Good advice Larry. I think I'll get mine rebuilt and go from there.

Thanks,
JP
