Just bought a 66 that I need to get it titled and inspected next week. Everything is working but the horn and front parking lights. Any help to track down the issue/s is greatly appreciated.
Get a electrical schematic/diagram. The firewall connector might be your problem. Remove it carefully, and clean all the contacts on both sides. Check the parking light connector in each front wheel well for power. Check the light bulbs and the unit itself as they can get corroded from wheel splash. Check to see if you have power up to the horn contact. If you do, it may be just in need of adjustment of the contact ring. Dennis
When you press the horn button you should hear the relay click. If you do, the problem is after the relay as long as the green wire going to the horns has 12 volts. If when the relay clicks, the green wire does not get 12 volts, the relay is bad. If you get 12 volts at the horns, they are corroded internally. Get a cheap replacement for the inspection.
The 20 ga purple wire in the LH (driver's side) bulkhead plug carries 12 volts from the light switch to the parking lamp filaments. There is a wiring diagram link in the help section near the bottom of this web page: http://home.mchsi.com/~magicv8
You can save a copy of the diagram or print it in any size you want.
Be sure to check both bulbs. It's not unusual for both to be out at the same time.
Grounding issues are #1 with Vettes. Check your rag joint at the steering box. It should have a ground wire wrapped into it. That will affect the horn.
Do yourself a favor and buy the Assembly manual (AIM) and the Corvette shop manual. It will become a constant refference.
