Fuel Problem (?) with Split Fuelie
Hi,
have a problem with my Split Fuelie and my mechanic has no more ideas.
Engaging the clutch at speeds over 30 mph stalls the engine. At lower speed everything is ok.
If connection between air intake filter and throttle body is removed the problem also doesn't occur.
Main diaphragm vent tube from throttle body to fuel meter is connected and sealed.
In any other condition engine runs perfectly without any problem.
Does anybody have an idea?
Thx and regards from Germany

Could you define that condition a little more clearly? Do you mean pushing the clutch pedal down (DISengaging the clutch over 30 mph)?

Sorry! Yes, of course.
(Would have been easier to describe it in German).

Hi Mike,
see post #3!
Again:
The problem occurs when pressing clutch pedal down, so revs going down and engine is off.
At speed <30 mph everything is ok.
After removing connection between air intake filter and throttle body also everything is ok.

I somehow missed post #3.
Does the engine idle okay?
When you have the engine revved at highway speeds and let the engine fall back to idle, it stalls? What happens if you control the engine speed drop with the throttle until then engine speed gets back to idle speed? Will it stay running?

Hi Mike,
idle is ok if car is slower than 30mph or air intake is not connected with throttle body.
At higher speed engine stalling can be avoided with throttle but there is no stable idle. Leaving right pedal leads to engine stall.

Usually taking the air cleaner loose from the air meter results in erratic running due to turbulence past the P ring.
Any chance the air cleaner is not passing enough air?
How about the idle mixture screw adjustment?
Have the lean/rich stops been set with gauges or just seat of the pants?
Do you or your mechanic have any kind of service manual?

I've seen this with modern cars with cold air intakes on them with no diffusers...the engine is flooding itself with air(hence going too lean) and stalling. The clue is the fact it is related to vehicle speed only, not engine speed. The fact that the air cleaner coming off 'fixes' it suggests something is not right there..a pic for us to see perhaps would help..
