I was there with my car... some nice early Corvettes. C1s actually were bidding pretty decent. C2s not good at all.

I missed the 6800 mile original C1 (60?)

It didn't sell, well maybe after the TV coverage?

Didn't see Vettebuyers 58 on TV.

My friends 59 fuelie climbed to $80K quick and stalled there.
He brought it home.

They got close, got closer after it came off the stage, but we decided to take it home. The vast majority of people were selling when the numbers got that close, but I guess we figured out we liked the car too much. Drove it home 200 miles today.

Now I have to go back and see how it looked on tape!

Nice white '58 fuelie went for 74 after dropping an 80 reserve.

There were not many C2's there, and the quality of the examples presented was not the best.

I think 25 is a lot for a mixed make September auction. No, there werent tons like Bloomington, but there were some very good cars there. They dont all have to be Top Flight to make comparisons in sales. I think the range in quality in all the series was representative of what you would expect in a similar auction.

That blue/blue '67 numbers matching roadster for $38ish seemed pretty cheap.

There were plenty of midyears but upon closer inspection, most had some problems like bogus trim tags or stamper motors, and or evidence of prior body damage.

This must be why some of these cars seemed pretty cheap.

Was wondering about that. The announcers didn't seem to give much information at all. Also had no idea what the frames looked like on these things. The paint looked great on almost all of them though. Would you guys characterize most of them as very good drivers?

The announcers don't know. All they can do is read the card and comment on what they see on the screen.

There were definitely cars of all makes that had problems under close inspection... that's the nature of the auction... but there were some nice driver cars there as well.

I was most surprised by the lack of close inspection on my car. Every time I have landed on a car to bid on over the years, I lay on the ground with a flashlight, look as close as possible at everything and check numbers, and attempt to speak to the owners. I did not see this happening with cars around me (Sat TV tent, all higher-priced cars) and generally the most consistent question I received was "what's your reserve?' Not one person got dirty looking under my car. I found this odd.

I also spent most of the weekend by the car to answer questions, and had a cell number posted for someone to call if I wasn't there. I didn't see many owners doing that, either.

I must say it was nice to see non concours and non bloomington gold cars being auctioned off to give an idea what my "normal" car might go for. I just wish they had a better description of the auction (already went on their site and doesn't tell me much more) so I could have a better idea of the condition. Almost all of them looked mint on tv and this obviously wasn't the case.

Steve is your 58 NCRS correct. If so do you think the extra dollars spent to obtain a Top Flight is money in the wind at the moment ? Stewy

It is not. I would call it a high-quality driver. Replacement motor.

I think it depends on what you have to do and how much you have to spend. I'd also wonder if the purpose was to TF it, then sell it. It may not be a great strategy right now, but again, it depends on what it costs you. Higher-quality cars still bring better money.

In my case, I have a correct #739 block dated correct with proper format, so it's worth the swap - the cost is minimal compared to the upgrade. You have to consider dollars vs. value increase.

Car showed really nicely if it's the one I saw on tv. Think it topped out at 45k. I think they continued bidding on a lot of these cars after they moved off camera so it was hard to tell what sold and for what.

Thanks, yes this is that car. Bidding ended at 45, Big Paul tried to get me to drop reserve. Just not enough to part with it. I got a call from the Bid Goes On table after it left the block, and they went to 46. Closer, but not yet.
