I put an MSD 8572 Dist on my Small block with NO Issues...I was also able to put my Shielding on.
pics would be great...any issued with the shielding fitting?
Here goes:
What i did was remove the MSD ring on the Distributor.
Replace the MSD wire Boots on the Dist with some good 90 Degree ones.
Had to tuck and route the wires on top the Dist cap so the shielding would fit.
If you need some pics of the wires just before i put the shielding on i can take some for you.....
I thought i took some pics of what i described above...Sorry.
The Pics i am showing you have not had that done..... Sorry Again...
Here is one of the shielding on the car...
This is where i mounted my 6A box.
ok..it looks as though it will clear the fire wall and I will be able to put shielding onbut now how about clearing the carbs and air cleaner for a tripower set up??? anyone??
Sorry not to have current pics. My MDS 6A box fried a few years ago. It will be replaced where it was mounted on the firewall to the right of the clutch linkage. You'd have to really poke your head under the hood to see where it was. I was running it with a Delco original tach drive distributor and Mallory Unilite as the trigger module. If your stock distributor is in need of a total rebuild, the MSD one is as good as any as you can see in Jack's pictures. Otherwise the stocker will work with MSD just fine.
Also running an Accel Super Stock coil, which is the same size as a stock coil. Worked perfectly, even with reproduction BB shielded wires, however you'd be better off with a good set of Pertronix or Bosch 7mm EMI suppressor wires. They use monel wire wound over a graphite impregnated fiberglass core. Stockers only have the fiberglass, which is much too high resistance. I'm running the Bosch wires now, that I threaded through the repro big block wire shielding braids. That was not a fun afternoon, but it looks factory and works great. Good luck with it. You will notice immediate benefits in idle and off idle peformance with the MSD box, and the car will start a heck of a lot easier.
If you can clear the shielding, and the shielding worked with your air cleaner setup before, it will work with the MSD distributor. It doesn't change the external dimensions or positon of the shielding. The shielding position is determined only by the intake manifold.
the whole set up will be new to the car...it originally had a BB in it but I just love the look of the 3 carbs and the air cleaner I am going to convert the car to a numbers matching L71 and sell it for big money <-- that was a joke...I just love the look so I am going with that set up so I am not familiar with the clearance
