Default Correct Block

Is there any "guidelines", as to which block is correct for a very early production 59 or are both the 3756519 and 3737739 correct?

Does anybody know when they stopped using the 739 block?

Where both blocks used for all horsepower configurations?

Thanks

the 739 was early production in 59....the 519 was late production 59 and all 60's and some 61's.....

the 739 block casting "may" have been used to early october 59.( maybe nov.-but unlikely)
the block casting 519 was used from sept 59 .and used thru '61...( 519 may have been used in very, very late 58's-but rare).there was a crossover period.
i'm 95-98% sure this is correct..
hope this helps.
john

btw-if you're thinking about having the car judged at ncrs meets, you might want to check these -casting numbers out on the ncrs web site, (and perhaps join)..

According to the 58-60 NCRS Judging Guide, the 739 block = 58 & early 59. The 519 block = late 58 through 60.

Thanks John, I am a member of NCRS and my dilemma is the car was build mid September, so I guess either casting (providing date code is right) would work?

I assume engine horsepower wouldn't be a factor?

According to the NCRS guide, the 739 block was used on the 58 and early 59 model year cars ( calender year Jan 58 to Dec 58), the 519 block was used on the mid to late 58 model year( (calender year June 1958) cars through late 1961 model year cars. So from my reading, if you have a 1959 model year car made from Jan 1st 1959 on, the block should probably be a 519 since the only overlap appears to be in the second half of calender year 1958.

I got thinking about this a little more and was wondering if he casting date of the block is within the 6 months that those "other guys" say is acceptable wouldn't either block be OK? Or is there a hard and fast rule?

Way too confusing for my tiny brain.

If you have an early 59 model year car (say Sept to Dec 1958 calender year car) then, I believe, either block would be correct. From what I've encountered, the 519 block is more available than the 739 block. Just get either block with a CASTING Date within 6 months of your build date. That's the rule, but from what I've read, you should really try for a block cast within a 4 to 6 week period prior to car build date.
