Default 1965 396 prototype manifold?

I HAVE A 1965 396 CORVETTE OR CHEVELLE SQUARE PORT INTAKE. IT IS A SUPER EARLY CASTING 12-23-64. MY QUESTION IS; COULD THIS BE A PROTOTYPE? LOOK HOW EARLY IT IS CASTED AND ALSO LOOK HOW UNIQUE THE CASTING NUMBER IS. FROM WHAT I HAVE HEARD IN THE PAST THE 65 396 WAS A MID YEAR OPTION AND LESS THAN 2200 WERE MADE

ANY ADVICE WOULD BE GREAT

here is another early 396 intake. It to has the odd looking casting numbers and is dated 12/24/64.Something else to think about is that The '65 396 was the first big block so there was no other useage before this for this intake which makes the odd looking casting number even more strange

before the 396 came out.All that was out there was the 409 and because of the shape of the heads it will not fit on both motors. No aluminum blig block intakes came on any trucks from the factory to my knowledge

I think a prototype would start with a 0-xxxxx number or maybe have an 'X' somewhere. Does this otherwise look like a 65 396 manifold? What about the oil splash shield on the bottom? Did the regular 396 manifolds have them?

That is just an early casting for the '65 396 manifold that was used in the Pass car, Chevelle and Corvette.

No question it's an early manifold but maybe the entire casting run had a homemade plug for the part number?
