Default '67 roadster in Indiana

Posted this a while back in the regional section but no luck. After seeing Stingray1967's success in finding his old '65, I thought I'd try here.

I was second owner of a '67 427/400, both tops, yellow/black. Did a search on http://www.add123.com/ and found out it was titled in Indiana on June 12, 2001. The actual details of owner, address etc are not disclosed. No idea if it's still yellow or any other details, except it said odometer mileage was not accurate.

Just curious if anyone knows of such a car in Indiana. I'd be interested in hearing from the present owner, and have photos from back then. There have been posts from people concerned about posting their VIN's so I won't put it here but will say the last digit is "4".

Did it give you a county? a city? Anything? The odds are agianst us at this point, we need something to go on. I can count the number of Stingray's I have seen while living in Southern Indiana on one hand. My guess is Chicagoland...

No further info.

For free, it will tell you if a given VIN is currently titled. If yes, you pay $4.95 and it tells you what state, when the title was issued, and any "flags" (can't recall the term they use) such as salvage title, inconsistent odometer reading, etc. But it will not tell you city, address, owner's name or any other details.

I agree 67's are not common but I'm sure there's actually a lot of them. Plus, while it may be titled, it may be in a barn, might be a track car, or may have been sold out of state and the new owner may not have registered it yet.

I know it's a long shot but you never know. I figure the one helpful clue is the date it was titled.

Here's a "back then" shot, color is a bit washed out but what can you do.

Have not had any leads but do have a "find". I admit to being a pack rat. I just came across the original owner's package for the first owner. Owner's manual, order number with build data, radio operating instructions, and the Owner's Protection Plan book with the plate inside. Not sure if this is the sort of stuff you'd ask money for or just give to the present owner as a "pay it forward" type of thing.

As info, the original owner saved his money while in the service, wanting two things - a new Vette and a motorcycle. He got out of the military, bought both, then was in an accident with his bike and became a quadriplegic. Hence my purchase of the car from him. A couple months ago I tracked him down and he was very happy to hear from me.

So altho the thread is a bit old I'll bump it once more with this new info. Maybe I can track down the present owner, and maybe find who had it in between. Now that would make a neat photo - the Vette, with its various owners through the years posed in front of it!

Unbelievable!

I know I should have kept it, but at the time I sold it I had moved out from my parents and was learning the realities of life - rent, electric bill, food costs, and all that stuff. The car needed some work (radiator was leaking, synchros were crunching a bit, radio was temperamental, etc.) I sold it - to a dealer - for $2100 in cash. Bought a $1300 '69 Mustang for a driver and a '56 Vette for $500 as a project. The dealer marked it up and put it on the lot, where it sat and sat. Last asking price I believe was less than what they paid me.

That Mecum sale was sweet - mine did not have sidepipes and had the base wheels but that one sure looks nice!

Fantastic car, I hope you can find it again. I am in the Chicago area and will keep my eyes open for it. If you feel like sending me the VIN in PM go ahead, I will keep it private.

There are a few 67 that make appearances at cruise nights and car shows around Chicago, but I don't recall seeing one like this. You may want to post an ad in the NCRS Driveline.

Turns out Chuck's is NOT my former car. Close but no cigar as they say. So it appears the most recent info is still - titled in Indiana June 12 2001. (Probably sitting under a pile of hay in a barn, with the farmer wishing he could get rid of it to make more room for his tractor )

Two other items in that owner's package were a Wheel Trim Ring Instruction Sheet, and a sheet from the original dealer saying that when the Vette is in for service, a new Chevy Courtesy Rental is available for $5.00 per day!

Looking at the Corvette Order sheet, it lists the engine as 390 HP Turbojet, then under "Comfort & Convenience" the option is listed "Conv 390 to 400 HP". Wonder whether that falls under comfort, or under convenience?
