Default Small Block Motor Mount Help??

I am building a Resto-Mod on a Jamison's Chassis. I installed the engine (Ramjet 350 crate motor) today and when I went to install the Hooker side pipe headers I found that they hit on the bottom of the frame. My question is will different motor mounts allow the engine to sit lower in the chassis? I am currently running Energy Suspension motor mounts. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Dave

If I were you talk are get with someone, that really knows are he is doing. If you get the angle off on the motor and dont do the same deg,s with the trans and rear end. You will be replacing parts under the car. Those three parts can only be so far OFF in deg,s and it get worse when the car is under a load, are your right foot is to the floor.

Are you building a C1 or C2?

When you had the frame built did you have the engine mounts lowered any from the "normal" position? The Ram Jet intake manifold is taller than most carburetor setups and may interfere with the hood if you didn't. I lowered the mounts about 1.5" from stock on my '62.

Which part of the headers hit the frame and how much do they need to be lowered?

A picture of the motor mounts and headers in place would help.

Or maybe the Hooker pipes aren't quite right.... Check this out: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-t...t-quality.html

Charles, I didn't have the mounts lowered as I'm using a 67 big block hood. The part that hits is the top of the pipes as they run under the chassis. I don't know how to post pictures as I'm not too computer literate.

Larry, very interesting post thanks.

So how much would you need to lower the pipes to clear the frame?
Which part of the headers is contacting the frame, the primary pipes or the collector?

Charles, It's the four primaries on each side. I'm not sure how much would have to be "dimpled for them to clear because the flages are not able to seat to the head correctly with the primaties hitting on the bottom of the frame.

There's been quite a bit of talk about Hooker's quality lately, I think they also have gone to off-shore manufacturing. Pack them up, give them a call and yell at them. You'll probably find the next ones they send you will fit properly......or the one's after that.....! And perhaps a call to Jaimeson's to see if this has ever been a problem. Don't try to adjust them or you may lose your investment completely. I recall one member fixed his but it took him a lot of time and skill to get them right.Definitely, I would not mess around with the drivetrain geometry modifying the mounts. K

Is your motor a tall deck SB? That would raise up the heads & exhaust ports to the point where they might contact the frame.
