I have a 64 with a 327, 300HP.
I want to connect the PCV system correctly. I have the hose fitting at the fill tube and the hose nipple at the back of the block behind the distributor. The AIM book is not clear.
Does the valve connect to rear nipple and carb. or the front nipple and carb?
Thanks.
There are a couple of good photos of a '64 L-75 engine on page 225 of Noland's book - shows a hose from the fill pipe around the right side of the carb to the PCV valve (retained in a clip under an intake bolt), and another hose from the rear of the PCV valve to a 90-degree fitting at the back of the carb.
On my early Oct. 63 built '64 with the 300HP I have a hose running directly from the oil filler tube to the 90 degree fitting at the rear of the carb. The fitting is not a standard one as it is drilled with a small orifice so it serves the same function as a PCV.
I think most '64 Corvettes did not have a PCV valve, although those originally delivered to CA dealerships had them.
The Corvettes without a PCV valve had the front hose (from the oil fill tube) go directly to the orifice elbow fitting in the carb or FI unit. The orifice hole was about .090" diameter. A reproduction of this fitting is available from Paragon. If you're going to install a PCV valve, you don't need the orifice.
The block rear breather tube (behind the distributor) tied into the bottom of the air cleaner.
