Default Trashed out early Vette ?

Okay I am a property manager been taking care of a place for 18 years at the property next door there is a Vette my guess is 56-58 its junk been sitting uncovered on the ground since the 80's , the hard top is off and leaning against the house, this poor Vette is probaby history but I am going to try and buy it just for resale, any thoughts of the value of a loooooooonnnnnnnggggg Vette ,,,,,, seriously about the only good on this car is the fiber glass all else must be rusted or gone...

You aren't giving us much information to guess a value on. Is there a frame, motor trans, hood, deck lid, trunk lid, does it have doors on it at all ? ? How many headlights are on each side of the car 1 or 2 (total of 2 or 4 headlights) ....

More info essential. If its like the '57 pilot airbox car its worth gazillions; if its a base engine, run-of-the-mill ride then maybe worth less restored than it would take to do the work. The hardtop, convertible top frame, seat frames and other such items might be the most value if its so rough that you 'part it out'. Same with a good front clip, etc.. If its a '58 it will have a louvered hood and two trunk 'spears' along the length of the trunk lid (or at least holes where they used to be).

What made you wait 18 years to go for it ??

VIN Locations
The VIN will be on a plate held to the driver's side door jam with phillips screws (open the driver's door, look under the door hinges), until early 1960 corvette production.

In early 1960 production it moved to the top of the steering column just forward of the firewall (open the hood and look at the top of the column for a spot-welded plate) where it stayed through 1962 production.

1963-67 corvettes have the VIN as well as a Trim plate mounted under the glove box in the passenger compartment.

Welcome to the forum, and good luck!

Jeff

No, you will be surprised what people will do to get a good look at it. Have you not seen american pickers?

Corvette bodys even rough are worth something. I sold a body cut from the firewall back for 2500.00 without doors, trunklid, body or decklid. My advice is to drag it out, put the body onto a trailer. Then take it to the local car wash for presure washing. Take some pictures and sell it. You will get some good money for it. If you have a vin then get it titled. Having the title will add quite a bit of value. Also, you might want to see if you have any extra parts for it. These could even add more money.

Well I went and saw the Vette up close turns out to be better than I thought, first I had the wrong decade its a 67, 427, Tri Power, 4 speed car and is 100% complete but ravaged by time and neglect its sinking in to the ground been sitting since 1990 with window open , back window busted out by tree, it was a black Vette and only has 17,000 on the speedo,,,,,,, I could not get the doors open or the hood,,,,,,,, the Vette has serious sentimental value to the owner so its not for sale however they were very nice in that I got to see it up close and get a bit of the history ,,,, I be visting them again just too stay in touch I sure would like to have this one.

In another thread someone asked why people dont sell stuff and just let it rot into the ground. Its a mystery to me. What sentimental pleasure can you take from letting this car go to car heaven?

Yup.

Can't tell if it is really a tri power or not unless the hood is open. Or if it is 100% complete.

My BS detector is going off big time.

Doug your BS detector is busted ,,,,,,,, No I did not get the hood open but tried,,,, hood call out "427" the owner is trusting imop her word is good enough,,,,,,,,,,,,, besides that how many women even know what a 427 Tri Power is , this was the husbands car and he passed away years ago thats where the sentiment comes from.

I will be back to see the car anyone want explain where the hood latch is. I looked but could not find it..

Which is it, hardtop next to the house or a coupe with the rear window busted out? or does the car have a hardtop and an extra hardtop next to the house? And if you can not tell the difference between a C-1 and a 67 how do you know the 67 is even "better"?

I never was interested in the Vette cause have ever been a Vette owner , never gave this Vette much thought and have very little knowledge on Vette bodies and so yes indeed I can't tell a C1 from a C-2 or C-3 or what ever,,,,,,,,,,, this 67 could be my first Vette and it better to me cause its a 427 a 4 speed and a Tri Power Can I get those options on a 57 answer NO and thats why this 67 is better
