Default 67 rear spring issues

I just bought a 67 roadster. In 1st gear if I get on it there is a rapid thump in the rear. If I put my hand on the floor of the back storage area it feel like a u joint is hitting it which makes sense since the rear end is torqing up in the front. I was suspicious about the rear sitting lower than I think it shoud be. Has anyone had to have the rear spring re-tempeered or any experience with this? I haven't put it on a rack yet as I want to have the weight on the wheel when I do it so I need a drive on rack. Thanks - I love this vette!!

Default Driveshaft hitting

This from my previous thread, experience with my '67 Vert: (hint - search thread with part number below)

I had the same problem. With both of us in the car, full tank of gas and especially climbing a grade - came the dreadful noise. Problem solved wih a new cushion, lower differential mount polyurethane spacer, below cushion aluminum, part number 190384, a $14.00 item. Involved removal of front differential mount cushions and reinstall of upper rubber cushion and install a poly lower cushion with the aluminum spacer. Problem solved. So, it is a simple low cost fix. My respected Corvette shop uses poly for this, yet rubber for all other suspension parts. I'll bet this will help you too.

How is the car sitting? If rear is sagging, you probably need a new spring too. Then metal or fiberglass is the choice. You can find other threads with dimensions front and rear.

Default Movement in rear end of my Corvette

Hello

I been driving my Corvette around last weekend when I noticed "movement" in rear suspension. I sometimes speed up car is "bucking" back and forth. I think there is something wrong in rear end..I noticed the bolt that attaches the rear end to frame is shinny underneath the bottom bushing is shinny. Do I need a rear end rebuild?? (hopefully not!)

Thanks
Pete

I have a 70 that does exactly the same thing.. been driving it that way for 10 years... can't find the culprit. I suspected the front differential mount bushings but that is tight.
All driveline related bushings and mounts are in good condition & tight.

Next I suspected the front trailing arm bolt(s) at the frame were loose... but they're tight also.

All of my U-Joints are also tight.

I guess I'll just rename the car to "Thumper".

The only thing I can think of is that the bolts holding the diff to the frame are loose.

Default Poly no

I am a big fan of poly in all suspension components except for the rear diff. mount. They are too thin and in many applications, allow the rear U joint to hit the body in the tunnel area. Go with the rubber here. If you still want a poly mount, let me know. I have a new one used only for a few miles. Jerry

This is interesting. We have a simuler problem of a kind of bump/rumble at highway speeds, that will increase with left turns (highway 65/70 mph). I can't seen anything rubbing (thought it might be the e-brake cables rubbing on the tires) but nothing. The bumper on the diff is snug, but that means nothing, as are the diff mounting bolts. I do know for sure that the spring bolt cushions doughnuts need replacing. They look dry/crushed/hard. Spring? yes is weak.

That's my story I'm sticking to it.

Mark.

Default Rumble

If you are getting a rumble at highway speeds that changes when you make turns, I would look at the rear bearings. A bearing that is at its end of life will change its pitch as it is loaded and unloaded. Jerry

Does the rear of the car wiggle or shimmy? If so, maybe the trailing arm shims have loosened and fallen out.
