I have the big one and two of the regular ones. If you are buying one, get the big one. The extra height that is has is better for listing bodies off frames. Also the bridge on the bigger one I felt was better/more sturdy.
As one person commented on, get the aluminum ramps even if you have to pay extra. The steel ramps are a major PIA....
The drip pans that they provide for oil drips etc are pretty worthless in my opinion. I put ended up cutting plywood and putting it between the ramps to keep fluids from dripping on the car underneath....
also if the lift comes with a urethane type wheel rather than metal is much better. I have both and feel that the urethane is the easiest to use....
No matter what one you buy, it is important that you ALWAYS make sure that the latches have engaged full before walking away form the car on the lift. It is easy to think it has engaged and perhaps it hasn't. That is how the cars get dumped. I always got and look at each latch to make sure.....better safe than sorry. Also, I dont allow anyone but me to operate the lifts because of the dangers that can occur....
good luck!
good for engine lifts on the end cross members...

I know this subject has a number of threads about what folks have purchased and prefer, but I have a few specific questions as for as features of lifts and which lifts have want I want.
I really like the Backyard Buddy as for as features, but their price is pretty high. For their standard american made 4 post with casters, shipping, all it is about $5K.
If you look at their web site they do a very good job of selling their lift features versus a chinese made lift.
What I like:
- I do not want to have to mount the lift to my garage floor, the the backyard buddy seems extremely sturdy due to the post size and contructions of the interlocks and lifting mechanism
- I want to be able to roll it around, and again the Backyard Buddy videos on their site make it look very portable.
I am sure there are other very good lifts, and I am looked at some vendor web sites, but they don't do a very good job of showing the features of their lifts.
Does anyone have a reasonable priced 4 post lift that is sturdy with our without a car on the lift and can be rolled around like the backyard buddy.
Thanks,
Don

I have a 9000lb, Forward Lift, 220v, and it can be moved around. I like the safety locking and speed up and down.

I have to assume that your SWC didn't spend it's whole life in Ohio. I don't see may 60s-70s era cars that were in Ohio 40+ years that survived, much less are still nice top to bottom.

I have a BYB; I got it used via Craigslist for $1200, then spent about that much again for professional disassembly, moving, and assembly in my garage. Right after I got it, I discovered a neighbor had a Stinger lift he wanted to sell. So, you might check the used market in your area.
I like the BYB, and it has a footprint that fits well in my garage which is 22' deep. The lift fits in there with the ramps attached, and room to work in the front, whereas I'm not sure some of the others would have.

Muttley: My garage looks much like yours. I had the 8' ceiling raised, retracked the garage door and added a Liftmaster opener. In the area above the 8' ceiling I added barn doors for storage in the attic. Jerry

8000lb Atlas 4 post lift and since my floor is pretty level I didn't bolt it to the floor, also don't know how thick the floor is. I swap places with my 65 Vette, 72 Porsche 911 and 93 Classic Mini at least twice a week. Price was about $2100. Been very happy with it.
