Default engine numbers

I've got a 64 and the engine #F0925S. Trying to find out what the suffix S stands for. I know is came from Flint on Sept. 25th. It doesn't have the serial # on it.

It appears a digit is missing, there was no engine code suffix with only a S in '64. '64 codes beginning with S were: SC (250HP, at), SD (300HP, at), SK (250HP, at, ac), and SL (300HP, at, ac).

I would recommend checking the engine casting number and date code to see when the block was cast and verify it's a '64 block?

Why the VIN is missing is another story???

I'm thinking it could be a replacement motor. But that is all that is on it.

F= Flint Mi assembly plant
09= September
25= the 25th of September
S= 327/250HP Passenger car for 1962, 63 and 64 with powerglide trans.

Check the casting date on the passenger side of the distributor. It should have a letter and three numbers like C153= March 15, 1963, or I183=Sept. 18, 1963.

Casting dates are usually one week prior to the engine assembly date. And the engine assembly is usually 1 to 3 weeks prior to the cars assembly date. Check the trim tag under the dash. It will have a letter and date in the upper left which is the body build date. A Sept 1963 build would be letter "A", October 63 would be letter "B" and so on.

So, if this engine is correct for your car (9-25-63 assembly), my guess is the Body should about "B7" for October 7, 1963.

We need the vin number and Body tag number before we condem the stamp. The neat thing about this factory "S" stamp is you can add a letter if you have an automatic powerglide car. SC=250hp automatic, SD=300hp with automatic,SK=250 hp automatic with air condition, and SL= 300 hp with automatic and air condition.
