i ordered it thru my dealer. i also had 69 Z-28 and full sized chevys painted non standard colors. the dealers had a book with all the available GM colors so you paid extra and got the color you wanted.

On page 62 of the Chevrolet "1962 Engineering Features" book (dated Sept. 61), is a list of available colors and two-tone combinations for 1962 Implalas. The very last color on the list is "Anniversary Gold" with this notation; "**Used in limited quantity for Sport Coupe Only". Anniversary Gold does not appear in any color chart for any other body style or model 62 Chevrolet in the book. Besides your Corvette, I have heard of some original Anniversary Gold Impala convertibles. Back then, if you had a friendly dealer, it was relatively easy to order unapproved colors or color combinations.
I have 2 friends in Jersey here who have code 972 Anniversary Gold cars. One is a 62 327/300, 4 speed, air, SS sport coupe and the other is a 63 (!!!) 972 Anniversary Gold SS sport coupe. I forget the story behind the 63's, but Verne, the owner of it, has done quite a bit of reseach into the 62 and 63 Anniversary Gold cars, for the Late Great Chevy club.
By the way, I bought my 62 in Feb. 76. It had a black grille in it at the time. I can't swear that it was the original grille, but concidering how ratty, bent, broken and beat up it was, I think it was original to the car. The grille was not painted, it was annodized, like all 61 & 62 grilles, and all other aluminum trim used by Chevrolet in the early 60's.

One thing I can tell you when the car was new people used to stop and ask my Mom who drove it most of the time "What color is that car? People loved that color.I always felt the 50Th Anniversary Corvette should of been painted that color instead of Ruby. Wonder how it would of looked?

40th Anniv. Corvette was painted Ruby.
Never liked the 40th Anniv. color, but really like the 50th (I have a 2003 50th Anniv. Red convert). Nice compliment to my maroon 62.

Sorry I don't have a better picture, but, if you look close you'll see the gold finish, albeit faded. One of the few things still original.

Silver & Gold
Not a great pictures, but this is a gold anodized grill. The chrome headlight covers are from 1961. I put the chrome & gold on when I want a little more bling, and the eye tends to stop on a lighter color, so you don't see beyond to the radiator quite as readily as with the black grill.
I also have the black one (it is anodized as well and is just an aluminum color underneath, not gold). I have the solid color headlight rings to match the body which was correct for 1962.

wib61, thanks for the correction; clearly it was way too late at night when I posted the above, I see I even called them headlight covers once, instead of rings.
