Ok now that the NCRS is selling the Shipping Data Information it seems reasonable to me that the Build Sheet Information should also be available. I know that one copy was sent to the delivering dealer at the time that the car was shipped but does anyone know if GM retained this information like they did the shipping data. While I know that there may be many reasons why some do not want this information out I believe that many of us would like to have it. Opinions anybody
I think it would be awesome if that info. suddenly became available. Can you imagine how many owners would panic? The news that their rare optioned BB was really a low option SB would be devastating.
The prices of the "fakes" would plummet, and rightly so. However, like the info. recently available from the NCRS, I really couldn't care. I have every document for my 65 since the day it was ordered.
Jim I also have full documentation on 2 of my four C1 and C2 cars but I do think that it is a great service that the NCRS has recently provided to help those of us wanting to know as much as possible about our cars. I understand that there would be some fallout if the Build Sheet Data ever becomes available but I believe that the benefit to the real hobbyist would far out weigh the negatives that would affect some. I would be the first in line to buy the information for my other 2 cars if it ever becomes available.

Wow,
You have four C1-C2 cars, and you are not aware of the at least 30 year quest for this information? According to all credible sources, it ain't available and ain't coming. Do a search here and NCRS you will get as much reading as you can stand. Too Bad, It would be a great thing to see.
I am very much aware of the fact that this information has been very protected for much longer than 30 years. That is exactly my point in stating that it is only reasonable to believe that these documents do exist and it is long past due that they be made available to authenicate these cars. For those who are opposed I can only say that in my opinion I belive that knowing the truth about these cars is much better than continuing to represent a car as something that it is not no matter who is left holding the financial loss. It works both ways as some cars will increase in value and others will decrease.
I don't think the information has been "protected". It is available for other lines, Pontiac and Cadillac for instance, but it has never surfaced for Chevrolet, at least in these years. GM even delegated someone to try to find it, if it exists. That person was not successful and it has been concluded that it did not survive. One can only hope that somewhere, sometime, someone will find the Holy Grail, but I wouldnt hold my breath.
I am unaware of any Internet Legend that says that it does exist so I won't get sucked into that, however it took more than 40 years to make the shipping data available so there is still hope. Ok I give so it does not exist all the more reason that more Bogus cars will continue to be built. Just look at it this way if there is "ZERO" chance of ever identifying a fake car through documentation, that means that whoever is responsbile for building them and commiting Fraud will never get caught. What reason would there be for them to ever stop. Now that is where the Build sheet data comes in if it only existed we could clean this mess up and no I have never owned a Big Block or Fuel Injected anything.
They will give you the dealership it was sent to, thats about it. Most dealers have changed hands or do not exist anymore. The ones that are the same have destroyed those records a long time ago... gonna be a waste of money for most people.
Also... this is why cars with documentation are 2-3x the money
People fake averything from data plaques and build sheets to balast resistors and voltage regulators... Most engines are "restoration motors" these days. I would almost rather see a CE block with a casting date that is close...
