This should be an easily accomplished task if one has their ignition key so as to turn the switch to the Accessory position so that a medium size paper clip (half of it straightened out) may be inserted in the small hole next to the key and have the key and cylinder pop out.
I do not have an ignition switch key that works.
My solution: 1). Post this message on the C1/C2 Forum in the hope someone has a straightforward solution.
2). If no solution is forthcoming, I'll simply cut the Ignition Switch wires and splice them back together later :o.
Assuming the ignition & door cylinders are the same you can get the key code from one of the door lock cylinders and have a locksmith cut you the correct key.

An excellent idea . I'll do that first thing tomorrow.
If you have any other GM keys from the same period of time. Give them a try, there were only about 12 combinations back then
Another great idea. I have a few GM keys, but none of them seem to work.
As soon as I am able to remove the ignition switch from the cluster, guess what most likely will be discovered in the most unlikely place?? Yep, within a few days, the key will magically appear.

I've collected GM keys since I was a kid and have yet to get stumped finding a key that works (got at least 200), and a lot of the old cylinders are so worn that any old GM key will work...make sure you wiggle it around a bit when you try. I even bought a car, a 60 Olds, that you could start with a screwdriver.....!
