Burning Brakes
Well this last weekend I delivered the Penske Mongoose GS back to Mongoose along with my trailer. My 66 will be lonely in the garage now that both of it's GS friends are gone. I will post a for sale message on the forum later this week. Enjoy your cars while you can !!! I've posted the car for sale in the C1-C2 for sale section. -- Ken

My GS #004 Tribute
She's finally back home. Single stage, lots of orange peel, drips, sags, lacquer dull, flat interior and the correct stripe shadow lines on nose (post repair/repaint). Names and number soon I hope. Depending on the flash, angle and light, the colors are ever changing. In person its much more correct.

My GS #004 Tribute
I have read discussions on that most GS replicas have not gone the original and difficult to drive path. Without doubt the Collier #004 has ten thousand things more correct than mine will ever have. However Marty and I have identified about a dozen things that the real thing just missed the mark based on the 64 Sebring weekend. One example is the names were painted with different height and there were names on drivers side, with them starting on the fender.

Something else the #004 car missed on (last time I saw it) was the absence of a correct waterpump. It's amazing to me that it doesn't have one given that, with a little patience, they can be had relatively easily.
Even my humble MAI GS has the right pump!

OK, it's Jimmy's Trivia Time. That pump is a 2nd design pump. What is the difference between it and a 1st design pump?
First correct answer gets an attaboy, good everywhere that attaboys are accepted.

And the answer is.....
As Rex said, it looks like I stumped the panel.
The question was what is the difference between 1st design and 2nd design 3824059 pumps?
The 2nd design pump casting incorporates a depressed area which must have been necessary for pulley clearance.
The pictured 1st design pump was cast May '62 and is the only 1st design pump I've ever seen. It's also the only '62-dated pump I've ever seen.
All of the '63 and later pumps I've seen are 2nd design.
And speaking of dates.... I've seen a few '63 dated pumps and many pumps dated '65 and '66. Curiously, I've never seen a '64 dated pump.
Rex, you've got some pumps, yes? What are their dates and are any of them 1st design?

Hi Jim,
Not sure what your prize is for "stumping the panel", but I offer a hearty congratulations !!
I have 3 of these pumps, all 2nd design, dated 3-11-65, 5-5-66 and the third one is on my 64 Z-06 so I cannot see the exact date, but I remember it is May 1963. Like you, I have never seen one dated any time in 1964. I'm glad I bought mine years ago before the "high demand" for them drove the prices to the stratosphere.
