Just as a quick update, here is a picture of me with the car and engine being united for the first time since 1969. I am doing a complete write-up on everything as it happened and it will be shared on the forum real soon.

Wow..wow..wow...wow. I have never even heard of anything like this before. Unreal...CONGRATS!!! Is it hard to sit with that horse shoe in your...lol!...awsome story.
I realize I am resurrecting an old thread and that this beautiful car was just purchased by a forum member. However, this is the coolest story I have heard yet and I want to resurrect this for anyone else who has not heard the story yet.

It's an amazing story isn't it?? Robert must have had his lucky rabbit's foot in his pocket that day!! I'm the new owner of the car, and I feel super priviledged to now be the caretaker of the car - it really does have a special feel to it, and I can't imagine having any other C2 now!!
I plan to get the engine/transmission back together someday, and display it properly with the car! It porbably won't ever be put back into it, since there's another period correct L72 in it, but I think it all needs to be together as much as possible!!
I know of several that were replaced with small blocks during the early 70's gas shortages. BTW I hope we don't end up at that point again.
Your note brought back a memory, one of my buddies an F4 pilot bought a 1966 Original 427 4 speed in 1977, beautiful car, he sold a nice 61 to get the 66. The original owner had the factory 427 on the floor of the garage when my buddy bought the car with a new 350, 300 HP in it. The guy told him he changed engines to the small block and doubled the gas mileage. My buddy bought the car without taking the included big block for $3,500. A few mos later he decided he should have taken the 427 with the car called the guy and it was long gone.
We were 21 back then and did not know enough!
