Default Ash tray Question

Hello
I bought a new ash try for my Corvette..i have never been a smoker but mine was so badly rusted I decided to get another one..

My question which way should the "tab" be inside the ash try?? forward or backward..Im thinking probably facing the rear of the car..Am I right?

Pete,
That tab should be toward the front of car and be careful they are not too sturdy. Mine broke off just putting it in!

Hello
GREAT I PUT MINE IN BACKWARDS...

The reopop I bought from Virgina Vettes is difficult at best to get in and I had to "push down real hard" on it to close the ash tray door...

I dont look forward to "taking it out" I might just leave it there!!!

Thanks Don

You won 1/2 the battle, you got it to fit! I would leave it as all I use mine for is the occasional screw/nut I find on the floor or change anyway!

I would take it out and put it in the right way.
Just be careful when you pull the ashtray out

Just for yucks...

Did you know that 63's used a unique ashtray?

Look at the picture.

The one on the LT is a 63 ashtray. The one on the RT is 64 to ?? ashtray.

Look at the mounting clip. The 63 is has single piece clip, whereas the 64-up has a 2 prong clip.

Both have the AAC logo stamped in 'em. It's on the opposite side, so it doesn't show in this picture.

JUST an FYI. Both will hold your cigarette ashes and stray screws/bolts just the same.

Chuck

Hi Chuck

I never knew there was a difference...Of course, my Corvette being a "split window parts car" I never had the right one..

Wow, I've never seen one with the larger, one piece tab.

Just as an FYI, the one on the right was used in all Corvettes from 64 through 76. That is unless they made another change to the tab during that period, that I wasn't aware of.

So would you lose points for the wrong spring, or reversed install?

Harry

I have the original "Split Window Parts Car", and I can prove it. Check out my license plate frame.

The one piece tab ones are tough to find.

And you answered my question about the usage of that ashtray..... 64 thru 76. I was unsure when they quit using it. Thanks for the info.

Here's a pic of the AAC logo, on the side opposite of the tab.
