I've never used these before, and the poop sheet says to install them dry. I'm still tempted to spray on a coat of silver paint like we did with the old steel shim gaskets before I throw them on. And yes, I do know about the finish requirement on the block and head surfaces. No issues there.
"Why does Cometic recommend MLS gaskets to be installed dry? Cometic Multi-Layer Steel (MLS) head gaskets go on dry because they are coated with a sealant. Each MLS head gasket is coated with a .001" thick viton rubber that is bonded to the outer stainless steel layers. Adding an additional sealer can hinder the performance of an MLS head gasket. "
We use Cometic head gaskets exclusively on engines we build here at Endyn. We install them "dry", and we prepare the block and head deck surfaces by using acetone to remove any trace of oil prior to assembly.
If not a 327 c2 and you dont have boost on the car if it is a ls1 or ls2 ls6, I am still saying they are a waste for the cost to the stock head gaskets. GM makes a excellent set on the LS motors. But if the car is LS and you have boost on the car then for sure yes well worth the money... I have them on my c5 ls2 motor making almost 1,k rwhp now with it and over 18 psi on the boost.

It's for a 498 that I'm building for a comp dragster. Good head gaskets are hardly a waste of money in that application. The only reason I posted is because I've never used them before and wanted some opinions. I have yours.

In that cause with what you are building just good ins for using them.
You'll also find that the Cometic head gaskets produce a lot less cylinder bore distortion than you get with more conventional head gaskets, netting rounder cylinders and better ring seal.
