What's stranger about the "Syracuse" 5 speed info is that the website has been out there for over a year, maybe two! I did a search the other day and turned up very little. I've been anxiously waiting as the close ratio model listed would be perfect for my '66 with a 4:11 rear!

Just curious I've seen no mention of the T-5 transmission. I like others have been running it for several years now with no problems. at least as far as I know.
There was concern about the torque of 300 lbs +. I spoke to a 427 Cobra owner running the T-5 and he loved it.
If someone is serious about the install I would suggest contacting one of us or all of us on how to. No sense in reinventing the wheel.

Dennis,

I've wanted an overdrive transmission for my '66 for many years. I've investigated almost every option and I've followed your posts (and others) who have installed a T5 in a C2. In fact, I bought a T5 18 months ago along with the bellhousing to install one in my car. I have what I believe to be the perfect one for my application (13-52-196), which has a .63 5th gear. My T5 is currently being evaluated by my tech buddy (he rebuilt my engine) - and we may order the rebuild kit and a few parts next week to complete the rebuild. I believe the T5 is a great choice - and when I'm finished, the plan is to do it for less than half of any other option!

When will someone come up with a kit to make the T5 a true bolt in in any 63-67 and one for the 68-82 cars?

This is the tranny I would like to have . The project seems like it is still alive, the following is a reply of a email I wrote to them . I got this back from the sales manager at Mcleod d a few weeks ago. this is a copy and paste.

Dan , Yes the project is still alive, but there is no time table for a delivery date. If your in a time crunch within the next 6 months I would look elsewhere say like Tremec.
I know this is a very frustrating topic for many but believe me its more frustrating for us here at Mcleod. We are doing are very best to bring a quality product to the market at a fair value but will not be rushed due to demand. Please continue to check in from time to time with status and hopefully very soon we can make a sale.

Which is why folks can b!tch a blue streak about Keisler, but they have a good product (once you get it) and with their "Perfect Kit" kit its a nice package. Even if McLeod had this product done in three months and ready to ship - do you wanna be the proud owner of a "fresh-to-market" piece of technology ? Not me pal.

I think it just shows how difficult it truly is to design and engineer a totally new transmission. All the others out there is just modifying an existing design. That said, if Autogear ever brings the 5 to market, I would be first in line based on the terrific quality of their new Muncie 4 speeds. My educated guess is, we wouldn't have the absolute nonsense to deal with that some aftermarket transmission companies put us through.

....no pain, no gain
hot rodding means modifying a part or the vehicle you are trying to improve in some way. the keisler is just not that difficult to install and it is a great unit. it really transforms the car for the better....jmo....

Well if this trans does become a reality, I will own one for sure, do not need one till about January . it will sure create a buzz and some price competition, and the fact a direct bolt in at around 2400 bucks, compared to almost 4 grand with the choices you can chose from now. and to get one to fit.? some do some don't , Really like the fact a solid well established company is taking their time to apparently get it right. and using their money for R&D , not taking it from customers to finance it . and making them wait a year to get it ? Just hope it comes through, time will tell .

I agree with not wanting to be a guinea pig for a new product. However not sure a tremec has ever been fully worked out. I own a TKO 600 and for the life of me still cant figure out why these trannys are notchy and dont have a smooth feel? I say this after driving my Camaro with a Tremec that is a 100 percent night and day difference. I am seriously thinking of going with a GM style trans once and for all like a T5 and being done with it.

I've had two Doug Nash/Richmond Gear 5 speeds - one in a '65 GTO and one in my '62 Vette Restomod - BOTH of those trannies were "notchy-shifting", and it wasn't the shifters either! I sure hope my incoming Keisler SS 700 isn't...

Quite simply - the Tremec is an internal rail system and doesn't use linkage rods is partially the notchy feeling. There are gobs, GOBS of Tremecs in everything from grocery getters to pavement eating drag cars. Yes, it takes getting used to and the 2-3 speed shift is a PITA to do properly. I guide (don't SLAM) the shifter forward with an open palm STRAIGHT at my C1 TEMP heater **** and let the detent spring do its job....that works pretty well.
