Was this guy ahead of his time? This article is from 1978 Vette Mag.
Wonder if it is still around? Pretty interesting article. Looks like New York plates.
Ohm man! I get a charge out of that! Of course he still has it, why would he cell? You just have to find its current location. I'd guess Washington - as in DC!
Seriously, I'd be interested in hearing the details (not that I'd do one myself). The handling must have been changed significantly, wonder whether that was addressed or just left to be dealt with.
The problem (actually one of many) is that those old conversions use generic lead acid batteries. They are HEAVY and don't pack the energy density of modern cells.
Add in the fact you try to push around a heavy car...and you have less range than a golf cart
Remember the GM EV1 car...also suffered from ancient battery technology. If you had one today, stick some Li Ion cells in it...it would scream

Upon reading the article again (9 pages), for the day, the car was amazingly well engineered. It did have lead acid deep cyle batteries under the hood and trunk and drove through the stock clutch, transmission, and final drive. Later model springs were installed as weight came in at about 3700 lbs. He used it in all kinds of weather for commuting to work. It would be interesting to know what became of it. The article is quite lengthy and very detailed. If anyone is interested send me a note and I'll scan and e-mail it to you.
