Default Decoding Block Numbers/Letters

First, let me say what a terrific resource this forum has been to a "newbie" like myself! Members are so knowledgable and willing to share info, ideas and experiences that help folks like myself from having to make a lot of unnecessary mistakes.

With that said, can someone help me "decode" this info on my block pad, just below the passenger's side cylinder head?

It appears to be "T1028JC", but the "1" might be an "I"? ( I know the "7103757" matches the #s in my VIN.)

Thanks,

Jimbolew

This page tells all:
http://corvette-world.com/corvette_1...tion_codes.php

The only "JC" engine suffix is for a '67 427ci (lucky you!)
The "T" in front stands for a Towanda built block.

"T1028JC" is a '67 427/400hp assembled on October 28, 1966, at the Tonawanda engine plant (source of all big-block engines). The "I" character was almost always used instead of the "1" character (Engineering direction since 1957).

The only problem is, if you are a newbe can you tell if it is a restamp? That is one of the most restamped #'s out there, on a survey a few years ago there were 20% more responces then cars ever built with a 67 427-400HP and that is only the people that responded. Look close at your deck markings and stamps. Good Luck

Here's a known-original '67 427/400hp pad; yours should look similar to this one.

He asked what the stamping denotes and John told him. Whether or not the stamping is original is the same old debate with only one or two real experts existing on the topic.
