Default BB decoding help

I have had this motor for a couple years. I got it for a 55 chevy and I never installed it. I dont think its anything special. I just would like to know what car it came in from the factory. Its a 2 bolt main block that says hi perf/pass. thanks for any help. Mark

see below regarding casting number

3963512 427 68-69 Passenger 385,425 HP
3963512 427 69 Chevelle,Camaro COPO (Central Office Production Order)
3963512 427 69 Corvette Late 69
3963512 454 70 Corvette,Passenger 360,390 HP
3963512 454 70 Chevelle LS-6 450 HP
3963512 454 70-71 Pass,Chevelle, Monte Carlo
3963512 454 71 Corvette 365,425 HP

Best guess with 2 bolt main would be 454 passenger car application
could be 69 390 hp corvette - i think casting date is a little late for 69 427 but could fit for really late july early august car

might post this on C3 forum and see what happens

Thank you Blue 396,
I was always under the impression it was a 454 390. Do you know how to decode the pad number to find out what car it came in from the factory? thx, Mark

I think you may be right. Also looks like some aggressive sanding or filing across the broach marks on the end.

1966 sorry I cannot help

I don't show a "COW" or "CQW" as a valid suffix for any small block or BB from the 1969 - 1970 era

I agree with above - good example of a poor restamp! but why go to the trouble and restamp like this

Thanks Blue, I have had it for two years sitting in the garage, and the guy i got it from had it for at least 10 years in a 4wd chevy van. I can feel with my finger that it was ground down and looks like another set of numbers underneath. thx, Mark
