I have a 60’ vette. My goal is an ‘original’ appearing vehicle, not necessarily a numbers matching vehicle; it’s not a ‘trailer queen’. It came with dual four-barrel carbs and a solid lifter cam, so I’m guessing the ‘270 HP engine’. I’m working on the ignition (generator and distributor) system first.
All that being said, my questions are: Should it be a distributor tach drive or a generator tach drive? Should it be a single or dual point distributor?
For the 60 model year C-1s w. 283-270 Hp used a 2043 generator that was equipped w. a tach drive. The distributor used was a 110891, a dual point model.
As far as a distributor goes you can use a 63-74 non tach single point GM w. a vacuum control. They are very cheap and easy to find. Take it apart clean, lube and set the end gear play to .005-.010 inches. Optimize the ignition curve, use HD points, appropriate VAC and a quality cap & rotor. You will have an excellent ignition system for less than $100.
