They were always one of the "go-to" places for engine rebuilding, 30 years ago when we were still autocrossing. At that time the owner, Luther, was getting up in age, so you'd guess maybe one of the kids took the business over.

That was Tommy Costales way back when. Good stuff. Westside is good also...

I would also strongly recommend G&G Machine up near Tomball. Great little shop that takes pride on what they do. Ask for Joe and tell him you're *another* Vette guy that Jim sent by. He's been doing a lot of work for us with no complaints from anyone. Good pricing, gets it done when he says he will. No machine shop jail!

Houston E & B is one of the best shops in the area in one of the crappiest neighborhoods. He's also the go-to guy for most of the serious drag racers in this area. I personally know 3 of the people on that customer list and they win a lot of races. His work isn't cheap but quality work never is.

Tommy's dad Luther was a legend around here when I was a kid. I don't know if any of the Houston guys remember the old Invader 57 T-bird drag car that ran at the old drag strip on I-45 over 30 years ago. I think that was Tommy's first drag car. He's ran a 67 Corvette in Super Gas for at least 25 years.

As usual Jim beat me off the line, but I too recommend Joe at G&G. He has done 25-30 engine the past 5 years for our band of Corvette and Rod guys in NW Houston. As Jim said he does many race cars but also guys that want a dependable rebuild with a little more kick.

Joe

I have my new G&G 383 'spare' sitting in the corner ready to go when one of our guys break something.

At least your paying for skill and not overhead.

You are right just an old gas station. Very unassuming shop.

Man, the economic downturn has hit that area real hard. do

He balanced my flywheel and pressure plate. I was impressed by his skill.

I am going to have him unshroud my valves and pin the studs.

But I may have him build me a stroker motor down the line.

Compared to a mail order or crate engine. I think I would get a more precise build for my money.

I dropped my heads off at Westside. They are closer to me. I don't have time to drive to stinkadena. My applogies to any Forum members who reside there.

Westside are nice guys. Seem to know their stuff and they have an engine dyno!

They are going to

unshroud my valves

extend my pushrod slots for 1.6 rockers

install screw in studs (they appear to be press in for a stock look)

pocket port the 461s.

Pretty reasonable price and ready by end of this coming week.
