I have a 67 BB and while under the dash just behind the oil pressure gauge (mounted to the lower dash frame)
there is a round condenser looking thing w/ a single wire coming out of it...it is round 1" 1/4 long and5/8" dia..the wire is out of this thing and trying to IDENTIFY electrial looking thing??
any clues???
its a radio noise capacitor. look in your AIM under UPC U69. you will see all of them and were they go. IMHO you really don't need them unless you are going 100% original stock
It's purpose was to absorb the spike voltage from opening contacts, which makes for radio noise. This was particularly a problem on AM radios and is not so much of an issue with FM. Early cars had capacitors all over the car to minimize this interference. They were across the coil, the generator, the voltage regulator, and brake light switch. They also grounded almost every part that was not solidly attached to the frame with ground straps to minimize the interference. This even included the ignition shielding and the little static dissipaters in the front wheel bearings, that almost no cars have anymore. Cars that were not supplied with radios had none of the shielding or ground straps.
