I was at supercar sunday standing in front of my buddies car that was parked next to me. Saw three guys at the back of my coupe, so I moved around to watch them. Sure enough one guy opened the fuel door. I went over and told him WTF are you doing. He says oh just looking, I said you have a funny way of looking, touch my car again and I will break your hand.
At shows I watch others cars all the time, whether I know them or not. I have no problem walking up to someone suspicious.
Unfortunate. Really makes you question whether it's worth going to car shows if things keep coming up missing.
My wife is fanatical about attending our Vette at car shows. She suspects everyone and trusts no one. One or the other is always present and watching. I never leave the car doors unlocked. I do crack the driver side window about 2" so other car show vendors and advertisers can toss in a brochure.
We heard from several at Carlisle, PA of a man and woman team working owners where one would distract the owner in a conversation while the other would remove the things they came to steal. Painful lessons.
We are aware of this technique as well as others. We are a vendor at Carlisle and over the years we have had stolen a driveshaft, T-Top stainless trim (restored), two 66 power brake master cylinders, exterior mirrors, air cleaner lids right off the table in front of us. It is a shame this hobby is contaminated with disrepectful people that make it bad for the majority of Corvette owners that enjoy the hobby.
