I am ready to put the 2 front pieces in my 62. When I test fit the driver side, it seems too long. When I slip the notch around the gas pedal, it comes well into the door jamb extension. It doesn't seem like you can shorten it, as the end is finished with the piping. Anyone else run into this. It is a name brand carpet set.
Never thought of that Frank. I don't see any obvious evidence of it but I will take another look. I am going to check the passenger side and see how it fits. Thanks.

Do that. I know some folks have gotten creative with the gas pedal location when the two mounting ball studs gave them trouble...

When you install start at the back and line it up where the step plate is then make your way up to the gas pedal. I thought I had the same problem as you discribed but I just refitted mine and it fits just fine.
I've just put my second set of carpet in the '61 and didn't encounter anything like what the OP describes...in fact I used NO glue on the carpet anywhere and only had to slightly trim around the kick panels and sill plates for a perfect fit both times. The only tricky part at all was installing the large rubber grommet in the carpet for the high beam foot switch.
Frank, I believe you have the black interior, right? Did you go with the salt and pepper? I know it has a olive color to it. Do you like the color? I need to replace my old carpet that is flat black.
I had black in the car when I got it EXCEPT for the door panels in the '61...they were the correct olive/black tuxedo. Sssoooo when I changed carpet I went with the olive/black all round (the door panel pieces are a lot of trouble to change!). I thought the mixed colors looked ridiculous and clashed horribly at first....now its grown on me. The black interior, olive/black carpet and correct white headliner in the hardtop are all things that make these cars unique and different!
I use a little liquid hand soap around the screws for the lower center console trim...if they 'grab' as you screw them in you'll pull a nice piece of thread a long way out of the carpet.. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED !! I also apply two coats of spray-on ScotchGuard to the carpet before installation...it can really save the day for a spilled Coke or whatever.
I only buy and use ACC carpet...if you put a piece of it up against many of the competitors the difference in quality is really apparent.
Great time to put down the heat/sound barrier as underlayment too!

Frank, The carpet looks great. I don't see much green as others. I will probably go with the ACC. I know from a previous post that you rattle canned you center console. I need to do mine also. What brand paint did you use? Thanks Larry
I think I used Krylon Fusion but can't swear to it...the car is not judged so I just tried to find some paint close to the gauge cluster and went for it. I didn't want it super glossy. I think it turned out OK.
