I just drove my '61 to the local "Tag Agency" in Florida and the gal came out from behind the counter and out to the car (on a 100* day) and recorded the VIN and then asked me, "How fast have you gone with it?" I said that I never exceed the speed limit!

When I bought my 65, i just went to a private tag agency with my bill of sale, and my signed title, and did everything right there.....no problems, and no questions asked. That was 4 years ago.

And yes he showed them all the photos from Noland. Didn't count for anything to those conscientious public servants. Rules is Rules.

Oh it gets even better! When he went to reclaim it, with additional documentation of the phillips screw attachment, THE DMV COULD NOT FIND IT!!

Don't know how it eventually ended up, but can anybody beat this DMV story??
Yes, Obama must be behind it. It couldn't be that the guy was ignorant,uninformed,close-minded,or just plain stupid.

Thanks for the responses. I have found the number on the frame of my 54. I wirebrushed the rust off by hand but I would like to highlight it somehow in case the dmv wants to look at it. Any suggestions for bringing it out more but not making it look like I have tampered with it? The numbers and letters are barely ledgeble.

On a somewhat related note: After bringing my car out of mothball storage in the mid 90's I went to the DMV office to get the car re-registered. A quick check of the VIN was done by a DMV employee - then back inside the building to finish up paperwork. The lady behind the counter says I have to turn in the license plates on the car and get reissued current license plates. I tell her I want to keep the plates, the plates are original and came with the car, yada, yada. .. Doesn't matter, she says. The plates have to be turned in.

After going back and forth and getting nowhere 'backup' (another lady) shows up and the back and forth starts up all over again. .. A guy in the background sees what's going on, comes over and the three of them have a pow-wow to discuss the issue. A few minutes later the guy walks back to the counter, reaches into a drawer.......and pulls out another form that the first lady didn't know about. The lady apparently had no clue. That form settled the issue. ..

The way I felt I was ready to go to the Governor's office in Sacramento and take it up with him. No way I was gonna give up those plates! ..

i love how there's 200,000 middle eastern student visas and they have no idea where these creeps are, but will jam american citizens. this is one of their ways to make money. come to california sometime. $500 for a rolling stop. $50 for an expired parking meter. get ready to grab your ankles...
