Gonna stay away from headers but I'd like to get some shorty or block hugger headers and could use some advice. I have 2.5" rams horns and I have the Moroso 7 qt kick-out oil pan. My pipes clear fine. The shorty headers are center dump also, so do I just cut my flange off and use their reducer or is it more complicated than that? Also what brand do you suggest? Summit probably don't make their own and their price is good but the Dynomax look great. Opinions on these vs. rams horns too. Thanks
Really no better than ram horns. Without the long primary tubes, you don't get the increased scavenging effect you want from headers. The only advantage of shorties is a smoother bend coming off the exhaust port in the head. This really isn't worth much.
You could do a bit of porting on your ram horns to smooth the tight turn on the end cylinders.
Ditto. Shorty headers can actually create more restriction if the joints and welds are not smooth. That's why GM got away from fabricated manifolds in the eighties and when back to cast iron. The internal passages are smoother and they flow better. You're better off spending the money on something else unless you can justify the cost purely on appearance.
There are some extrude- honed rams horn manifolds designed for circle track racers, that are restricted to stock type cast iron exhaust manifolds.I personally have no experience running these, but they may be worth investigating.
This is an interesting topic. Mr. Cast Iron for circle track is Randy Brzezinski. He sells the Corvette manifolds, including a modified version with enlarged inlets, but not the extrude honed version. Is this because the honing doesn't really help? I dunno. His site is http://www.castheads.com
