62 Differential axle ratio code question, need help quick!
As stated in my other thread, I have located a date correct 812 Posi for my 62. My question is this: In the judging manual, there are 21 codes listed for 62. The unit I may buy is a CB code, which says 3.36 Posi used in manual or auto trans applications. Some of the other codes apply to 4 speed only. My 62 is a 4 speed so would the CB code be correct? My concern is manual means 3 speed when it does not specifically say 4 speed. Thanks for the help.

The axel code is located on the front right passenger side of the differential carrier at the same height as the axel tube. It will read left to right or bottom to top. In your case, an example it will read CB 409, Which is 3:36 posi, then the month and day or April 9. If the numbers are CB 1023, then October 23 is the date.
The casting number 3789812 was used from 1962 thru 1964 in positraction diffs only in passenger and Corvette. There was a Thin OR Thick "P" cast into the differentials. The 'Thin "P" was used in Corvette, and would also have single digit year code (2=1962, 3=1963 and 4=1963) Passenger cars had the thick 'P' and two digit year code, like 62=1962.

Great. Thanks Jim. All the date codes are good for my early 62. The unit in my car is a correct 812 posi, just dated 2 months after my car was built.
