I may be way off here, but before Mecum and BJ were being televised vintage Corvettes and classic as a whole were becoming more and more expensive. As far as I can tell, it's never been cheap to restore a car. One thing I have seen go through the roof is plating! MY God! We can't blame that on Mecum...

I have to wonder if the price remodeling your house has gone up since all the remodeling shows, or how about gym memberships after the biggest loser show. I will agree that TV does have an influence on people and may add to the popularity of certain things, just not convinced yet that Mecum and BJ drives the market 100%

Ok I respect your theory , I believe that reality tv for remodeling homes can compare to classic cars sales Im sure that some people jumped on the band wagon after those shows to buy and flip homes - trying to make a fat buck . Which is Ok this is a capitalistic country my point is we who truly love our cars and bought them for pleasure not as an investment are paying the price

I have the same story with vintage guitars. I have been a professional musician for over 30 years. I remember when a guy could afford to buy a vintage guitar and actually play it on a gig! Now, they are all locked in vaults somewhere and way out of reach for the common player. Why? Money of course... It didn't take a TV show for that one either...

Lots of those old guitars started getting bought up by the Japanese years ago, and also from the big starts with deep pockets. Some are rare and worth allot but it really is way out of control now. There are also lots of fakes out there just like 67BBs. I think anytime you have a finite number of old collectable things, eventually the prices will rise. I’m not trying to be argumentative with you about the auction shows because I think they have sparked more interest in our cars for sure, I’m just saying I don’t think we can blame it all 100% on that. Maybe old Toyota Prius’ will be next :o)

By the way, your motor was my inspiration to pull mine and do a full engine bay reso this past winter. I’m a few days away from being back on the road…

Back in the '50s, electric guitars had much more hand-fitting and finishing in the production process. The result was a lot of average instruments, a smaller portion of lemons and an equal number of phenomenal axes.

Thanks to lasers, cad-cam and other technical progress, very good guitars can now be made almost anywhere in the world. Once you program the desired dimensions and other characteristics into the parts-making machines, each piece is near-perfect. And a whole aftermarket industry has sprung up, with "speed shops" like Seymour Duncan making pickups, bridges and other enhancements.

I have guitars from 1923 to 2004, but I look for quality first, rather than age, rarity or country of origin.

I completely agree however, I do own some mid 50s Teles and Strats and they do have some magic. I have had some real vintage dogs so I get where you are coming from. The new stuff just doesn’t have any character to me for the most part. I own a Tom Anderson that is great and a few relics that were made right.

OK, We are wayyyy off topic! Don’t get me started down the guitar road or this will get out of hand :o)
