Just aquired a 1963 convertible, kind of a barn deal, the car's been untouched, unstarted, and unregistered since 1980. It looks pretty much stock except the hood has been modified and the fenders flared, but it was well done. The engine looks like a 327 but I havn't dove into it yet, doesn't have ignition key. My questions are, would you call a locksmith to key car, or remove ignition and take it in, and how hard is it to register with dmv in Ca with no pink? All I have is signed receipt for old man I bought it from.

Thanks, any suggestions are appreciated.
I would take it in to a locksmith..or get a new ignition with key..No idea about Cali..But, I would make sure it isnt stolen before I spend the money to get the car..Bill of Sale wont mean much if its stolen...Only thing will happen is you lose the car..
Recently, a guy told me he had a 63 Corvette for years but had not registered it because the title did not match the serial numbers (off by one number)..He is paranoid it might be stolen...
Dont get yourself into that position..You could get burned..

Welcome to the CF..
Not reg since 1980...are there any OLD reg cards/papers around? That will help getting the car registered along with the bill of sale from him.
If not have the guy you bought it from get in touch with DMV and have him request a "Duplicate PINK SLIP". Then have him sign it over to you.
Take the ignition out, it will cost you less to have it keyed.
Copy that about the pics. Ill have my wife help me with the tech stuff and get some pics up asap. Thanks for all the good info. I'm gonna pull that ignition, the glove box lock is gone, one of the parts I need to buy.
No locksmith here but I think you could get a key made off the glove box lock?
.
The glovebox lock is different. If anything, you could make a key from the door locks, providing they are original and the ignition switch is original.

I think the '63 is a single key locking system. Am I wrong?
