Yeah, I too remember the spotlights and the big unvailing that all the dealerships did. It really was a big deal, back in the day. Life seemed so simple back then, compared to today. Maybe kids today will be remembering, in their future, the sneek pix posted on UTube or Face Book.

The new car intros were such a big deal, they even sent out invitations to them.

Below are 2 different invitations from 1962. The top photo is of both of them closed, and the bottom are the same ones opened. The smaller, green one even still has the salesmans business card in it, and the envelope it was mailed in, with a .04 stamp on it!

It's so sad that those days are gone.
A great time to have lived & enjoyed. What was so great back then was that every year the cars just got cooler.

My Dad was a GM dealer and we kept our new cars in the barn behind our house. I remember going out to see what we had in there after school and saw a 1963 Red on red Chevy Impala SS with a 327-300hp, 4 speed trans, at that time the convert top was covered with a shiney silver covering that i ripped to reveal a white top. Car was unlocked so i got in and breathed in the new car smell and fell in love, i was only 15 years old but i never forgot that car!

Default Poloroid Pic at New Car Showings

Fun thread - thanks Roy. Back in 1950, at our local Ford dealer, Rosemurgy Motors, Wausau, Wisconsin, they would take a polaroid picture of you in a new Ford. Here is a pic of my mother and me (age 7) in a NEW 1950 FORD Convertible. Note winter clothes - new car introductions back then were closer to the start of the new year. Memories!
