1963 Convertible
Hello,
My name is Russell Smith and I just registered for this site. I have been a vintage Corvette owner and enthusiast since I was in high school in the 1960's. I've owned many Corvettes.........the newest one being a 1966 427/425HP convertible and the oldest a 1959 290HP fuelie. I currently own a 1963 convertible that I bought in 1988: Red/red, 4-speed, 4.11, 327/340HP, two tops. This car is currently under going a frame off restoration. I have been an NCRS member for many years and I have restored MANY mid year and solid axle cars. I am an expert in the 1963 model and have assisted in many correct NCRS Top Flight and Bloomington Gold restorations. I live outside of Corning, Calif. (120 miles north of Sacramento on I-5).
Please add my '63 to your registry. VIN: 30867S101518 (built Oct. 18th, 1962........smack dab in the middle of the Cuban Missle Crisis

I have your friends old '63 #598 listed in my file as being a
White/Red NOM 4spd Coupe, body #247, so it's still out there somewhere...or at least it was when I recorded it.

Do your records indicate when you recorded it? When did you start doing this?
Thanks so much. He said he was going to pull his old pics and file he kept all these years. Would be great to find it. It was an old drag car when he bought it.

Very nice of you to offer up information on your cars. I searched a long time to find some cars that were built close to mine so that I could try to compare info like date codes etc.
Interesting stuff and I hope you get contacted by someone with a '63 that is close to your Roadster!

I started recording 63's about 20 yrs ago but I don't record the date I list them in my file. I do have the listing dates separate in yearly agenda's so it would take a great deal of digging to come up with the date I listed your friends old car.
What I can tell you is that I recorded it in about the last 10 yrs or so because I have it's Body number down. I didn't pay enough attention to the body number's from the start as I should have and missed out on recording a bunch.
Thanks again!

trim 490c
body 988
paint 936A
Muncie 4 speed still in car. Comes with a big block hood as well as original. All glass is perfect. All trim intact. Missing the hood grills.
Engine is missing, but it was a lower horsepower 327
I will have it home by this Thursday....would be willing to share what I find. The car is complete and has had a brush with a fence in it's life.
I went to school with the owner and he has sold it and bought it back twice. I have my work cut out for me I know. Paint has been sanded off so I see where the repairs were made. Thanks for asking.

Thanks for your 63's info! It's now added to my file.
Do you know what the hp was of your original motor?
Also, does your serial tag have a 'DD' stamped on it? This was right
around the time that it began appearing on 63's, or just after.
I also have '63 #20,557 recorded as being a Red/Black 340 4spd Roadster with Black top, Body #10,470.

I just got my vette home. You said you have been working on it for how long? I am deciding on direction I want to take. I do not have a numbers matching engine....so thinking about an LS2 with the stock Muncie and a gear vendor behind that. My 56 chev 210 has that it it goes down the road at 70 like a dream. My body is sanded......so thinking of a gel coat before I paint. Did you do a body off rebuild of the suspension? Good luck in getting yours on the road. My goal is 2 years.

Syd cant remember if you got his one Thanks RT
