I took my car out of storage and it was running like crap. I was going down this little 2 lane road with no houses or traffic leaving the caves where my car is stored. All of a sudden I see a cop to the right hiding just off the road and as soon as I passed him he lit me up and pulled me over. I figured it was because I was revving my engine and it was loud.
He let me sit there for at least 5 minutes before he got out of his car and came up to the window. He told me "I got you going 32 in a 20." I told him "Are you serious? I was just trying to keep my car from stalling" I had no idea I was speeding." He handed me my license back and told me to watch my speed.
I guess he heard me revving my engine trying to keep it from stalling out, and he just let me go. My 8 year old says " I'm going to tell mommy" and I just laughed.
When I pulled out I saw a sign about 30 yards away that read 35 mph. I guess it was just a 100 foot long speed trap. I was glad he let me go. I had only traveled about 500 ft total when he stopped me.
Same thing happened to me a couple years ago. Pulled my Mustang out of storage and proceeded to get the cobwebs out of the carb. As I flew by the cop doing 45 in a 30 he pulled me over. The cop walks up and says" first of all, nice car, second, license and registration". The car was not inspected and the registration was overdue. He still let me off with a warning.
Count your blessings. I got pulled over at 6:45 am on my way to work.... not a soul in sight except for the car behind me... got a $200 speeding ticket. I leave extra early every morning to avoid the speed traps. I deserved the ticket... but it was really unnecessary. He could have let me off. I'll consider it my donation to the City of Cary.

Hwy 1 ....? I leave at 6:15am that way they're still at the doughnut shop. Gotta watch it in Cary...my wife got tagged doing 40 in a school zone. Fine was $200.00 and public shaming.

Better watch myself in OP today and for the next few weeks as the weather finally cooperates...
See you around town maybe.
Silver '65 vert here.
PS: If it was near the caves, must have been a MO cop tho right?
Yes, it was a MO cop. He was actually a nice guy. He could have given me a ticket, although as I said it was only 20 mph for a very short distance and I think it was a way for MO to make a few extra dollars.
There is a cruise every Friday night at the Long Branch at the corner of 92nd and Metcalf from around 4:30 to 9:00. I expect it to start this week, but I'm not sure. I'm not a kid anymore and it's cheap entertainment for an old fart on a Friday night. Maybe I'll see you there.
Your luckey. You never tell a cop "are you serious." Always agree with what he says but act stupid and show respect. That officer did you a big favor. Generally speeding tickets raise your insurance and is a mark againt you by your insurance company let along the points on your license.
I said "are you serious" in a shocked way, not condescending. I think that's why he handed my license back to me. I was truly shocked, like I said, I thought it was because of the exhaust noise.

I was let go last year pulled over for brights at night in the rain, country road in C1 , unexpected rain and let go . But my best police story was at a red traffic light in my old 1968 327 350 hp vette I noticed a good freind /women police officer in passenger seat of her and partners patrol car she did not see me but when that light turned green i may as well been racing at the summer nationals NHRA 1/4 mile smoke noise and on came them lights I could see her saying get that maniac LOL they pulled up next to me at next light and she saw it was me , I laughed and said always wanted to do that no ticket .
We had a Corvette club caravan to a show in another town last year, with me leading. A guy at the back of the caravan let another car pass, before pulling out, and then passed him later on to catch up (on a 2 lane road). Just after he passed the "other" vehicle, he got "lit up". Local plain clothes cop.
Cop was a good guy, understood, and let him off.........but passing a cop on a 2 laner is never a good idea (especially if the cop is doing the speed limit).
Of course I get blamed for "going too fast while leading the caravan". Who, ME? Then my "good buddy" (I won't name names) chimes in with "Yea, you were doing over the limit!" He with the known inaccurate speedo........He can lead next time!
you will find most local police depts are more lenient than the state highway guys. esp in ohio. the state patrol pulled me over many times
and chewed me out most of the time. that was when i was a local city cop. jim
We have several law enforcement officers in our Cobra Club. On tours, we always make sure there is one leading, and one following the caravan. It has worked so far.

not so much luck in california. the state is broke and the "fuzz" (am i showing my age?) are on the warpath. a friend got a $500 ticket for throwing a lit cigarette out of his car in heavy rain. i have no beef with cops but when their told to go make $ for the state, they're not your friend..

It was on Evans Rd. I was doing 52 in a 45 on Maynard and turned onto Evans where it is 35 (25 when flashing). I pulled it back up to 49 or 50... he was behind me... following me in a silver Charger. I believe he used the Maynard Rd reading to tag me on evans. So I got a 52 in a 35. Either way I was speeding and deserved the ticket. I get up extra early to avoid this exact thing. I work 10 hours on a 8 hour day just so I don't have to "putz" to work every day. It backfired on me. I'll be taking Rt 40 from now on instead of going through Cary. It's 10 miles longer... but I won't have to "putz" at 6:30 am. I'll take the hit... I did the crime.... I'll do the time.... but he was just a little bit of a hard on... just like I remember the dudes in NJ before I moved away. So C A R Y... Collection Area for Relocated Yankee's seems to be proving true. LOL
I chirped the tires (I didn't smokem) at a stop light as I made a right turn. The cop was right behind me. He pulls me over and asked for DL, Registration, Insurance, and then I want to hear your excuse. I gave him my DL, Registration, Insurance and told him "I don't have an excuse." He came back after the longest time and then gave me back my information and said, "Your about as old as I am. This is the kind of thing we did when we were kids. Do you suppose you can correct that behavior?" I said "Yes Sir!" He said "Thanks for wearing your seat belt." and let me go with a warning.
One of my neighbors was pulled over recently on the winding, two-lane road that borders our subdivision. Turns out, the deputy just wanted to take a look and talk to him about his car (a '70 Dodge Coronet R/T).

Had something similar happen not long after I got my '59 in 1967. Got pulled over on a busy road, cop never did say that I did anything wrong, said something about a routine check. The conversation VERY quickly turned to the car, what motor, etc. We had a nice chat about muscle cars etc - during which I saw my mother and kid sister drive by with wide eyes! Finally I got up enough nerve to ask the cop if he could turn off the light, he said he had to get going anyway, nice talking to you.
This cop was a known motorhead, and occasionally would sit on an overpass over the Lake Ontario Parkway where the local kids engaged in...er...acceleration evaluations, shall we say. There was no entrance to the parkway at that bridge, he just sat up there enjoying the action below.
