Default Column Shaft Position

Hi guys,

Is there a rule of thumb to where how far in the column shaft/steering wheel should be forward into the dash? Is it all based on comfort, or am i missing something? there's no way the factory made custom adjustments; that's why i am wondering before buttoning this up for the ??? 7th time. oh well, you get to really know your car this way.

66 vert, non tele.

thanks,
Jim

My 65 AIM says the steering shaft must be positioned 1/2 way into the steering gear - and they are pointing to the cast iron piece that is attached to the steering coupler.

Default just doubled checked

i looked at the aim manual and i now saw that reference too. i must have stared that that drawing for a while. funny how you miss the most obvious.

my splines are sticking out about 13/16" from the coupling. i think that is about half-way. i hope.
