65 master cylinder kit.
parts kit is wrong? (or at least will not fit mine)
Its a 457 master cylinder kit.
Anyone else run into this?
Also, I didn't realize how few parts come with it?
Main seat, 1 rubber seal, a piece of foam, and a metal sir clip (for the seal).
I wanted the whole enchilada. Valve seat, valve butt., primary cup,
secondary cup etc.
Just venting as Napa is now closed, have had the parts for months,
but never thought to compare to the manual.
When I disassembled mine, I was miffed.
Its a very simple affair, but "parts is parts" does not apply here.
My master is marked (on the underside)
2225032 R2
with a "203" by the drivers side, lower cover clip area.
Have never looked into masters for yr etc.
Just thought I would throw it out there.
There is a chance its not the orig?
But it sure looks right.
Thanks in advance.
...the raging debate here is the new kits from LICS have an extra part, some sort of perforated valve or end cap that is listed in the chassis service manual but NOT listed in the LICS assembly instructions - wtf???
Napa now says "we only carry 66- 67 assisted kits?"
And I was told when I purchased the kit it was for a
65 single (manual brake car)
Have another problem, the female threads in the body that feed the brakes
has bad threads. (1/2 came out and look like a heli coil)
Zip has the correct rebuild kit (pictured on-line) for $25.00.
But still deciding if I should drill and re-tap to the next size up,
replace the fitting and use the kit, or just buy a rebuilt unit.
They seem to go for about $100.00 from the 2 catalog co's
I looked at on the net.
Anyone know of a local parts chain that stocks a rebuilt single
master cylinder for a 65? (Don't really want to wait 2 weeks)
If I do buy one rebuilt.
Thanks!
went through the same thing with mine. Couldn't find a rebuild kit that would work, ended up just buying an identical replacement master cyl through Mid-America i think (i believe it was about $100) and replaced the entire unit. Of course i oiled the original up good and still have it in a box for the next person that may eventually own my car. I will let them worry about rebuilding it. I bought mine to drive, and i am not planning on selling it, so i am not that particular about replacing something like a master cylinder, as long as it is a visually correct replacement.

That is the same kit number I got about a year ago..
When I first looked at the parts I also thought it was incorrect..
Parts looked different.. however once I checked closer, they would and did work..
I don't recall the numbers stamped on the MC on my 65... but it is a single non power.
So far, the brakes are working great..
I would have liked to get the entire rebuild kit as well..
My kit was only $10.00 ??
BTW I didn't use the foam
Since this was my very first MC rebuild....
Don't tell me that it's now got the WRONG parts inside :boxing
:cry :cry

Does your new Master look the same as your old one?
Is the cover held down with the 2 flat side straps, (like the orig.?)
or does it use a wire hold down?
Am leaning that direction (new) . I dont have a problem
replacing the master with a new identical unit.
Did find one locally, a brand new "reybestos" unit (-5 spelling)
but the hold down was wire and would look out of place.
Thanks again. This is saving me some serious time.
But I must have had another kit, as it would not work at all in mine.
I am rebuilding mine as I wanted to replace the (check) valve part #8 in the 63 shop manual. (had a tiny bit of trapped pressure, not fully bleeding when off of brakes when released)
As well as the bad threads I discovered upon disassembly.
(Glad it didnt let go on the road! )
So what I am after now is a source where I can buy a new
orig. looking unit. Plan on using my old cover though.
Glad it worked for you.

the replacement was exactly like the original with the two side straps. Set them side by side and you cannot tell the diff, except for the stampings on the bottom. Mine has been on two years now with no probs.
i think Ecklers also carries the exact same thing for a few bucks more or less, but best i remember they were out of stock when i needed one and i didnt want to wait.
good luck bud.

at Mid America. If you ever need a 65 rebuild kit
Paragon has the complete kit for $25.00
Since my threads are gone, I will just buy a new one.
Would have ordered from Mid America, but they didnt
have a new "master" to "block" brake line in stock.
Will try and find a source that has both, it looks like
$129.00 is the going rate these days.
At this moment I am surrounded by at least 20
Corvette catalogs. LOL LOL
For some reason, I never throw any of them away.
Thanks again for all your help.
secondary cup etc."
Too funny, I posted "valve assembly" Part #8, abbreviated as "valve as_."
It was replaced with butt.

I know someone was asking" whats a valve butt"?
BTW, Zip shows the Master @ $99.00 and the line @ 20.00
Will call them in the AM and see if there in stock.
It doesn't need a Butt valve yet "
Well I am pleased to hear your down there checking
it from time to time.
Not 100% sure it was the butt valve that failed.
Could have leaked past elsewhere just as easily I suppose.
Its had this symptom for a long long time. 20 yrs plus.
Just bugged me a little, was not enough to really hurt anything.
Just slight resistance to roll when stopped. Didn't bother the brakes,
but did bother me. Verified it was in the master by cracking the masters fitting. After 80k my butt valve was not blown out. Just leaked by a little.
Mag Red Man, thanks for checking the numbers for me. Hows that BB C3?
Post some pic's on the C2 board, your comrads here I am sure would really like to take a peak at it! I know I did.. :smash: :smash: :smash:
