Default engine mounting question

I am getting ready to mount the engine and was told the trans has to be mounted too otherwise the weight of the engine might bend the mounts and potentially the horns the engine sits on. Is this true?? When I took everything apart I remember just having the engine in w/o the trans attached although there was no fly wheel and the intake was off. This is a completely rebuilt BB but I cant imagine it is that much heavier than what I had before...any help would be appreciated before I break something....Jim

P.S. I plan on installing the trans once the engine is in but just in case was wondering...thanks

why fight putting the trans in while on your back?

put it in as ONE UNIT.

In that case....its okay to do it separately....just block up the rear of the engine to keep the weight off of the engine mounts/pads.

Default Shim??

I got the engine in last night but it didn't happen without a little bit of an issue. I had to shim the passengerside motor mount inorder to get the bolt through. Should this be a concern? I used a "V" type shim that I guess was used on 427's with a/c. the hole was only off by about 1/16 or 1/8. I am guess in the mounts might have been off but I wanted to check with the "minds" and make sure I am not overlooking a bigger issue before I bolt up the trans...Thanks...Jim
