running a engine on a test stand voltage question
the engine builder doing the engine for my Chevelle has my engine running on his test stand using his HEI Distributor. but he said in order to run my stock points distributor he needs to modify his test stand wiring to get only 6 volts to the distributor and coil. is that right
but the good news is he had it running for a hour tonight with no problems

You do not have to lower the voltage just to run it on the test stand. when you turn the key to the start position the engine gets 12 volts then when it starts and you let go of the key it drops down to about 8 volts, thru the ballast resister. If you run it on 12 volts all the time it will just kill the pionts.
