in a C1 i THINK it's shape (round versus oval) and internal baffling (sound)

The 57-62 Off Road exhaust system utilized round, straight through mufflers, similar to glass packs. They were louder, and produced less back pressure, for more sound and improved performance.
Mufflers used with the 63-67 and 68 N11 (Off Road) system, are oval like standard mufflers, but still produce a louder sound and less back pressure.
For 69, N11 was replaced with N14, the side exhaust system. Because of increasing pressure from Federal, State and Local governments, 69 was the last year that any form of louder and freer breathing, optional exhaust was offered.
I thank you all for that bit of information. I am sure there were others out there that did not know the difference but thought they would look like a fool for asking. Hell I don't care if I look like a fool. Anyway Thanks

IF I got my facts straight wasnt the off road muffler standard on some 56 and 57 cars and only optional on 61 and 62 cars?

JohnZ would probably know the story, but from what I heard the term "off road" was supposed to be for racing apps, but also a politically correct labeling of the option of "louder, free-er flowing hotrod exhausts", because mufflers aren't used when racing.
