AO Smith vs St Louis bodies

No matter what anyone else says, I think Tom has a great red 67 BB in a St Louis body, with RPO N11 exhaust.
Here's to Tom.

a lot of places are now selling non-ethanol 89 (or higher) octane, especially where there a lot of boats; it might be worthwhile trying.. depending on your compression ratio, you might have to retard your timing a bit to avoid spark knock. try it if you can find it.
and, I see you are in Mass so your temps may not run as high and you might have as bad perc problems as we encounter down south.

Grant,
Thanks for the comments on my Corvette Restoration Books. Those books took a total of 13 years to write and get published. There's a lot of research involved, so I've had enough. No Vol III for me.
However, the publisher is looking for an author or authors for a book covering 1968 to 1972 (or 1982). Interested? Send me some details.
Thanks,
Noland Adams

My understanding is that Noland is dealing with some significant health issues and is not currently active in the Corvette hobby.

The suggestion that all 1967 Corvettes with 427 engines were buiilt with St. Louis bodies came from my book on 1963 to 1967s. During my research I found that the workers at AO Smith in Michigan had problems getting the hood stripe mask right. It was finally decided to use only St. Louis bodies with 427 engines, as designated by the hood stripe.
Further, early 1967s with 427s did not have a hood stripe and did not have the numbers "427" installed on the hood. This change- to hood stripes and emblems- occured about serial number 1,000.
While about 95 % of 1967s with 427s and a hood stripe will have a St. Louis body, there are some AO Smith 427 bodies out there. This is unusual because the 327 hood uses a right side hood support, while a 427 uses a left side hood support. There were not supposed to be any 427s with AO Smith bodies, but there are a few.
That's why the NCRS judge was wary about AO Smith bodies on 1967s with 427 engines- there are very few around! Look around and check it out for yourself.

I'm the original owner of early built (September 09, 1966) 1967 Corvette model 19467 (Convertible BB VIN194677S100560 (Special Order) St Louis Body.
My Corvette has the black hood stripe and 427 hood emblems.
I have never seen 1967 BB without hood stripe contrasting color and deleted 427 emblems on hood.
I have my papers and pictures of Corvette number 560.

Come on people. This thread is older than dirt. 2 of the posters are not even able to post now because of health issues. Wonder who digs back & revives these.

Cool thread to come across with Noland Adams joining in, his book is very good and my AO Smith Daytona Blue '64 is referenced in it several times VIN 122152, does kinda look like the silos. Here's an A.O. Smith article I came across.

Let's start a new thread rather than answering one that's been dead for 14 years.
