Default 64 pass side window

Finally a nice day, took it out wash it and then put the windows down. Except the pass side stays up while the mechanism goes down. Took a hold of the window and it came out in my hands. The up and down motion seem fine, no binding and no noises. Do i just have to re set the window and glue it down with some good quality clear silicone after cleaning the stuff out of the channel?? Really getting an education with this car.

Go to a glass shop and get some glass setting tape. It's a 2 sided tape, made for holding the glass to the sash. You can also get it from most of the Corvette vendors.

I don't think that silicone will hold a door glass.

If the glass and rubber are reasonably clean, try some thin CA glue in a few spots. It bonds rubber and glass pretty well.

CA= crazy glue.

This is what you need:

After a few decades the original tape becomes brittle and starts to break up. To do it correctly, remove the channel and clean out the old tape. Then, set in the new tape and tap the window glass into the channel with a rubber hammer. If you take the time to do it right you'll be good for a few more decades.

If the rubber is in good condition it can be used again.

I have used Sikaflex®-255 Extra in many cars to hold the door class channel in place, makes it waterproof also, wont pull out unless its cut out. This type of product is used in late model cars to hold the windshield in place.

Just remember to use a marker on the glass to align the channel for the correct position before bonding it together.

You can also use a small part of the rubber at each end to center the glass this sets the glass height in the track fill the track half full then push the glass into it and then wipe any excess off to level it off, it will then take 4-5 hours to set. Trim any excess off with a sharp blade after it has set.

Silicone takes too long to set and it needs to be neutral cure or it can start to corrode due to its acidic cure to set.

If you do use it in the door without removing the glass from the door don't use to much as it will bond it all to the top of the door frame when you wind it up till it cures.
Then you are stuffed if this happens. So take care if you do it this way...

I hope this is of some help to you.
Cheers
Leigh

That side window glass is VERY tempermentle One false move and it will literally explode! (ask me how I know) The tape is the only way to go and go to a glass shop! Good luck, Abe G

As others have said, assuming you don't have corrosion in the channel,
R&R with the correct glass setting tape is the way to go. While you have the window out, you have the opportunity to clean & grease the lock mechanism, lube the regulator and replace any other deteriorated weatherstrips. You may end up wanting to do the other side as well once you are done. Do it once and do it right. Pilot Dan
