R12 Quest
Where are y'all buying your R12 these days??
Besides the Vette.... I have 5 other cars that are still R12.
I have my EPA license.
Thanks in advance... I've been Googling it and only found one source so far. Was hoping for a miracle.
Ha Ha.
PS: Not interested in 134....or any other substitute... tried it.... simply does not work as good as R12 even when done "correct"... and.... I want to keep the Vette original. Not interested in debating the issue either....it's been beaten to death... just need a source for R12.

Should have asked this in the first post, but how the heck do you used those cans to add to your system? Is that something you do on a regular basis and once I "open" the can and use it, can it be stored and re-used later? Never really understood how that works.

RE: Ebay.... yes... I saw those... some are 14oz cans, some are 12 oz cans... but I need a reliable professional source. I'm a little skiddish with ebay.
RE: How do you use it.... there is a "tool" that has a needle in it which punctures the can. The tool attaches to the lip of the can to secure it, seals with an O-Ring, and the needle is screwed into the top of the can.... and it punctures the can to let the freon flow. You then back off on the needle a little bit to open up the hole completely to flow. The freon then flows through the tool to a hose which is attached to the low side of the cars A/C system. Once the can is punctured, the contents has to be used completely. The tool has an O-Ring seal to the can, but it is not designed to re-seal the can.
The 30 pound containers have a valve on the top which allows them to be closed back up after use, but I have found these valves to be just a little bit leaky, and over time, the entire 30 pound container can empty itself. I tried putting a brass cap (with o-ring) on the valve as well but this didn't completely seal it either. So.... I'm also a little hesitant to buy a 30 pounder. Even though the cans have to be used up once opened, the unopened ones will not leak out on you over time like a 30 pounder tends to do. I have the same problem with 30 pound R22 containers.

You asked for reliable sources, not the lowest price.

I personally would buy a 30 lb cylinder from one of the long time E-bay seller(s). $$$ would be lower and the R12 would be correct.

I do have my "EPA" card... I'll check NAPA as well.
AutoZone was a dead end so I assumed NAPA would be as well.
Talked to a couple of guys who work for "Scoggins" HVAC... and Progressive... no luck.
Also... AutoZone, Advance Auto etc.
I have both licenses for HVAC... R12 and R22 and I buy 30LB R22 regularly no problem. I take care of 7 HVAC systems where I work. But I can't find R12 around here. So... if you could... please ask your friend where he gets it? Thanks.

What has been the best price that anyone has found so far for a 30lb bottle of R12?
Has anyone found one under $700 yet???

Last week, I bought a 30lb bottle from my friendly local NAPA store. I know the manager and he said their warehouse had two 30lb bottles and I asked him what kind of a deal he could make me on one of them. I probably shouldn't quote the price in a public forum, but he made me a deal that I COULD NOT refuse!!!!!!!
I now have 1 1/2 30lb bottles for all of my cars---------------which I hope will out last me!
