Looking for a seasoned block to build a new powerplant for the vette and in looking at the blocks on offer, most display the cam off-center to the upper left of the boss. I thought this was an indication of core-shift. Is it worth the time/$ to have one of these sonic tested or should I keep looking? Another question how much over 30 can you safely go?

We have found that core shift on the cam tunnel is noa good indicator of what the clylinders will measure, The only true way to tell is to sonic test the clylinder for thickness.
We have about 40 to 50 blocks in the shop that that have failed a sonic test because of one cylinder being out of spec.
We have block that have perfect core shift but faialed a sonic test and have blocks that have a ton of core shift according to the cam tunel placement but have good clylinders.
A few years ago we bought 6 four bolt blocks and only 2 out of 6 were worth using for a performance build. If that tells you anything!!
